Ms Boram, a Korean children’s book illustrator and writer, on Wednesday educated pupils of Royal Setters Academy, Abuja on the importance of creativity and imaginative work.
Boram engaged with the pupils during a “Boram Book Talk” organised by the Korean Cultural Centre Nigeria (KCCN) in Abuja.
The event was aimed at teaching and exploring children creativity in imaginative work.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Boram, who authored children’s books such as ‘Flap Flap Sunflower’, ‘Everyone Splash’ and ‘Even an Umbrella Needs an Umbrella’,
spoke on the books that explored children’s emotions and experiences.
According to her, children’s books help to develop critical thinking skills, nurture imagination and provide safe spaces for children to explore complex emotions.
She said her passion for children inspired her to create books that express their feelings and perspectives.
” I commended the children’s activeness in showcasing their talents. I observed that the pupils were very excited due to the numerous questions asked.
” I began my writing skills at a younger age, I have written about eight different books that have to do with illustrations and drawings.
” I have bout 30 books, but I am so particular about “Flap Flap Sunflowers” because of my love for sunflowers,” she said.
Boram further said she got her inspirations from friends conversations,things she saw in movies, as well as her daily life, which made it possible for her to bring children together through books.
” I am so happy to be with Nigerian children. in spite of different children, it is still amazing that at the end of the day the feeling was mutual.
“This is so interesting because the children felt the same, reacted the same way, asked the same types of questions and we understood each other,” she added .
Also speaking, Mrs Chidinma Tobins, KCCN Administrative and External Relations Officer, said the event aimed at communicating to the children that their books were written by someone because most of them do not have these types of creative moments experienced today.
According to her, the author wants to ensure that children agreed with the possibilities that imagination can actually lead you somewhere.
She added that Boram focused on children because of their unique ways of thinking as future generations.
Highlight of the event was the engagement of the pupils in creative drawing of ” Sunflower”. (NAN)
