Lekki Free Zone Coy Remains Committed To Green Energy

Introduction to Lekki Free Zone Development Company

The Managing Director of Lekki Free Zone Development Company (LFZDC), Dai Shunfa, has reiterated the company’s commitment to advancing green energy adoption and mitigating climate-related risks. In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos, Dai emphasized the company’s determination to build a climate-resilient and eco-friendly business environment.

Commitment to Sustainability

According to Dai, the zone is intensifying efforts to attract renewable energy enterprises, including solar technology manufacturers, in line with its sustainability strategy. The company is promoting clean-energy investment while ensuring that development within the free zone follows global sustainability standards. The goal is to reduce pollution, lower emissions, and support companies operating in the zone with environmentally responsible infrastructure and resources.

Environmental Impact Assessment

Dai also stated that a comprehensive Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) is compulsory for all incoming enterprises before operations begin. This requirement is designed to ensure compliance with environmental regulations and reduce industrial pollution. The company has also deployed climate-response infrastructure across the zone, including man-made structures originally developed to prevent flooding and erosion, which have been re-purposed to serve recreational and sports activities to benefit surrounding communities.

Regulatory Framework

The Senior Manager, Legal and Compliance, Mr. Toluwaleke Adeyele, noted that the company has tightened its regulatory framework to ensure that all industries within the zone uphold environmental best practices. Prospective investors are required to complete rigorous environmental assessment procedures, enabling the company to monitor environmental risk, ensure eco-friendly production, and safeguard communities around the zone. Many enterprises operating in the zone now use a local power plant rather than diesel-powered generators to reduce emissions and improve efficiency.
