Introduction to Igbo Political Mobilization
The pioneer National Chairman and founder of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Chekwas Okorie, is rallying Igbo political leaders and elite to discuss the mobilisation of Ndigbo towards 2027 elections and beyond. This initiative aims to bring together key stakeholders across different political party lines to deliberate on the agenda of Ndigbo in Nigerian politics.
Objective of the Meeting
A letter written by Chekwas Okorie inviting some Igbo leaders to a meeting stated: “After a number of consultations, it became compelling that a select number of our leaders across political party lines and other critical stakeholders be invited to deliberate on what ought to be the agenda of Ndigbo in Nigerian politics irrespective of political party affiliation.” The primary objective is to tap into the huge population and enviable geographical spread of Ndigbo, which have remained largely untapped over the years.
The Need for Action
Continuing, the elder statesman stated: “God has blessed Ndigbo with a huge population and enviable geographical spread, which have remained largely untapped over the years. We have no excuse to lack relevance and well deserved respect in Nigeria.” This emphasizes the need for Ndigbo to come together and chart a course for their political future. Okorie further stressed that the meeting was not for 2027 alone, indicating a long-term strategy for Igbo political relevance.
